Voice therapy as you get older

Picture

As we age, there are many reasons why our voices can change. For example, changes in hormones, not talking as often, less physical fitness generally. Not all of these changes are negative, they can convey the wisdom people have acquired across their lives. However, some changes can make it difficult to keep up our side of the conversation.

Many people notice as they get older:
- the voice is quieter
- the pitch is a bit higher or lower
- the voice appears to run out or get tired easily
- it is more effortful to talk

These voice changes can come primarily from changes within your voice box, your lungs or both. Targeted exercises can improve your volume, endurance and ease of voice.

Elizabeth has a particular interest in reducing ageism in our society. It is not about sounding "younger", but keeping your voice strong, vibrant and healthy as you age.
